THE STORY OF NEP MIDLANDS
Here is a brief story and timeline of how the NEP you know and love today, came to be.
In October 1996, when Chris Dawn's daughter, Lauren, was just over 4 years old, Chris decided to start a new venture, going self employed providing procurement services for engineering products. He started this from his mum's bedroom back home and delivering the products himself, with the aim of making £35 profit each day.
April 1997, the business was growing well, so Chris teamed up with a partner and moved to a single office room in Basford, Chris then could be out drumming up more sales while his partner looked after the company internally.
January 1998, with even more business growth, they moved to a unit in Radford and employed a delivery driver. Business for the next nearly 6 years boomed, only resulting in another and final move to a bigger warehouse unit in Lenton (Unit 5E) in December 2003.
1 year and 10 months flew by, and in September 2005, Chris bought out his first competitor, Rollerball. This set the precedent for the next 8 years, in June 2015 he purchased Nottingham Bearing Company, shortly after this point the company turnover was £2 million and employing 15 staff.
In July 2016 NEP acquired the unit next door, expanding the warehouse space (Unit 5F), 2nd January 2020 Chris purchased Trent Valley Bearings, 10th January 2020 he purchased Eagle Engineering and merged all businesses under the same roof.
The next step was surely only natural after such exceptional growth in a relatively short period of time, Chris set on to purchasing external branches, in October 2021 he gained Six Hills in Melton Mowbray and then in July 2023 acquired Boltworthy and the Boltworthy team are now based at the head office.
